What exactly is Visitax?

Visitax is a tourism tax the State of Quintana Roo charges every international visitor under Article 51-Octies of its Law of Rights. The money funds local tourism, environmental, and safety programs in places like Cancún, Tulum, and Cozumel. It’s separate from anything your airline or hotel collects.

Isn’t this already included in my flight ticket?

No. Airlines flying into Mexico collect federal fees (DNR) and airport fees (TUA) inside your ticket price — those go to the federal government, not the State of Quintana Roo. Visitax is the state tax and has to be paid separately, before you fly home.

Who needs to pay this tax?

Every international visitor departing from a Quintana Roo airport — Cancún, Cozumel, or Tulum. Mexican citizens and residents don’t pay.

What documents do I need?

Valid passport information. Flight details (departure from Quintana Roo). Email address for QR code. Valid payment card.

How long does it take to get my QR code?

What if my QR code doesn’t arrive?
